We have been working with Olly Hicks and George Bullard over the past few months to assess their decision-making before to their marathon kayak from Greenland to Scotland.
Having covered the Greenland to Iceland leg unscathed, they set off across what is known as the 'Devil's Dancefloor' between Iceland and the Faroe Islands - a six day/night kayak. About a week ago, after covering 100kms across the Dancefloor, they made the decision to turn back to Iceland, as there was pending gales and treacherous seas.
Today they have taken the decision to give it ago again. An ocean crossing that they are trying to prove that the Inuit did many hundred years ago.
We will be assessing their decision-making again once they arrive at the Faroe Islands to see how it might have been affected by the tiredness and exhaustion of this courageous crossing.
Olly and George have, in the last hour, set off from Iceland to The Faroes. This is their second attempt at this 280mile crossing, having been forced to suspend their last attempt due to bad weather. They are on great form, however they are nervous. They now know what to expect out there, having spent 36 hours on the sea on their previous attempt. The winds are predicted to be behind them on this attempt so they are looking to get the sails up, these will help them speed along. The best place to keep an eye on their progress is on their tracking site – they update straight from the boat.
